Bayer Cares for Elephants
Ayutthaya – Bayer Thai Co. Ltd. donated cash and leading products for animal health worth a total of 590,000 THB to the Phrakochabaan Foundation, an elephant foundation in Ayutthaya that is engaged in helping and conserving elephants.
To strengthen Bayer’s mission “Bayer: Science For A Better Life”, Bayer has a strong commitment to apply science into the major global challenges in order to deliver innovative solutions that address unmet customer and market needs. With more than 100 different animal health and care products worldwide for live stock and companion animals, Bayer’s Animal Health Division is one of the most successful suppliers in the field of veterinary medicine. The goals of the division are to maintain the health of animals and cure veterinary diseases, with the focus primarily on treating infectious diseases and repelling parasites.
The donation of money and medicine to the Phrakochabaan Foundation is part of a two-year program "Bayer Cares for Elephants" aimed at promoting the welfare of the Foundation's elephants. Since 2005, the Foundation has been helping and protecting Thai elephants and encouraging the culture of nurturing elephants.
During the donation ceremony, that took place at the Foundation on December 21st, 2012, Celina Chew, Managing Director of Bayer Thai Co. Ltd. and Dr. Ernst Boettcher, General Manager of Animal Health Division, handed over the products that treat bacterial infections and parasites, as well as cash with the total value of 590,000 THB to Ms. Michelle Reedy, Operation Director, and Ms. Ewa Narkiewicz, Communications Director of Elephantstay, an initiative under the Phrakochaban Foundation, for the use in elephant care.
Dr. Boettcher said, “As Bayer Thai has is working in Thailand for 50 years, we would like to express our goodwill to Thai society as well as to help improving the animal living conditions. Elephants are recognized worldwide as one of Thailand’s symbols. Accordingly, we initiate this activity in order to celebrate our 50th anniversary of Bayer Thai while we help with the great work of the Phrakochabaan Foundation, and Elephantstay, in Thailand as well.”
